An Arizona meteorite with the most colorful of names, Tank Mountains was found by prospector Joe King while searching for gold in the desert near Golden Harp Mine between Yuma and Gila Bend. An L6 chondrite, Tank Mountains appears to have broken up immediately before impact as twelve separate pieces of the meteorite -- quite widely dispersed and ranging from a few grams to several kilograms -- were recovered by Mr. King after a very thorough search of the surrounding area. All twelve pieces fit cleanly together and so we also affectionately call Tank Mountains "Arizona's Jigsaw Puzzle Meteorite." Total recovered weight is 8.05 kilograms, with a shock index of S3 and a weathering grade of S2. Tank Mountains is available exclusively through Aerolite Meteorites Inc.
